Features
Parallel Switching Shunt
When the maximum charging voltage at a given temperature is reached, the parallel switch (U.S. Patent #4661758) automatically shunts the solar array to prevent overcharging the batteries.
Temperature Compensation
To extend battery life and prevent stratification, these regulators automatically adjust for the temperature of the batteries.
Durable Construction
Specifically designed for developing nations and sustainable development projects,
ETA controllers are extremely rugged. ETA mounts the regulator's circuit board in
an anodized aluminum heat sink and then encapsulates it in an epoxy-
Pulse Width Modulation
Automatically adjusting to the load requirements, battery state of charge, and battery
age, Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) brings the battery up to maximum charge without
trickle charging. This design maximizes battery life and continuously adjusts to
the battery requirements as opposed to 3-
Overload & Transient Surge Protection
All regulators provide an overload rating of twice the specified input current for 20 seconds to accommodate the "edge of cloud effect". Solid state transient absorbing avalanche diodes protect the charge controller from lightning induced surges and inductive load spikes.
Solid State Electronics
ETA Engineering's solar charge controllers have no moving parts that can fail. To ensure safety, ETA excludes the use of mercury switches from all of our regulator designs.
High Reliability
These designs use High Safety Factors to minimize stress on all critical components, which gives exceptional life. Products using this design installed in the late 1980's are still going strong.
High Efficiency
The regulators contain blocking diodes chosen for minimum forward voltage drop which maximizes charging current from the PV module(s). The static current draw is only about 2 milliamps plus the current to drive any LED that may be on.
