The ETA Cathodic Protection
Controller (CPC) is available as a single control board with half
cell input to be used as a building block of a CP system or as a
complete stand alone control system with all electrical and electronic
components except the ground bed and connection to the Load. Alternative
Energy (AE) Systems using Photovoltaic, Wind, Water, or Thermal
Electric Power can be supplied as a total system. ETA provides Professional
Engineering to size and quote a system for any location. Enclosures
are available in NEMA 3R, NEMA 1 Fiberglass, or even Explosion-Proof
as may be needed.
The output to the load may be
set in the constant current or constant voltage mode with automatic
"crossover" where the mode of operation will change as
the ground resistance or ground bed resistance changes with time.
Both maximum current and maximum voltage should be set, based upon
field measurements and anticipated aging. This provides a maximum
output wattage level that can be used for sizing the input power
requirements for the specific location. ETA Engineering normally
provides a Four Function Meter (see separate data sheet - DMM4F)
for easy measurement of input (battery) voltage, current and output
(load) voltage and current. Other system components are preferably
housed in the same enclosure. These include such items as Photovoltaic
temperature compensated charge controllers, indicator lights or
LEDs, PV power shunts, terminal blocks, circuit breakers or fuses,
and lightning protection circuitry. When used with Photovoltaic
power, the PV structure and frames are grounded, the PV leads are
brought in through lightning protection circuitry to the controller.
The ground bed connection is brought in to the unit through extensive
lightning protection circuitry including a spark-gap protector,
air-core coil and high current avalanche semiconductor transient
protectors.
